It is an\u00a0<em>ex situ<\/em>\u00a0method where genetic variation is maintained away from its original location and samples of a species, subspecies or variety are transferred and conserved as living collections. Field gene bank is the most common method of conserving genetic resources with recalcitrant seeds and vegetatively propagated plants.<\/p><p>As part of the\u00a0<em>ex situ<\/em>\u00a0conservation program the institute has established field genebanks in different agroecological zones of the country. The field genebanks mainly consist of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ebi.gov.et\/am\/biodiversity\/conservation\/field-gene-banks\/crop-community-gene-banks\/\">crops<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ebi.gov.et\/am\/biodiversity\/conservation\/field-gene-banks\/forage-and-pasture-field-gene-bank\/\">forage and pasture<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ebi.gov.et\/am\/biodiversity\/conservation\/field-gene-banks\/medicinal-plants-field-gene-banks\/\">medicinal plants<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ebi.gov.et\/am\/biodiversity\/conservation\/field-gene-banks\/horticulture-field-gene-banks\/\">horticultural plants<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ebi.gov.et\/am\/biodiversity\/conservation\/field-gene-banks\/forest-field-gene-banks\/\">forestry<\/a>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Field gene bank is one of the techniques in the strategy for plant genetic conservation.
