The implementation of the 2017 plan for the biodiversity centers and botanical gardens  was reviewed. A direction has been set for them to play a key role in the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity by strengthening good results and correcting shortcomings.

The Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute has 7 centers, two botanical gardens, and a duplicate gene bank. It is preparing to open two more centers in the eastern part of the country in the coming years.
