Training given to researchers

The Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute’s Training, Consultancy, Project Support and Monitoring Lead Executive provided training to the institute’s centers researchers at Bishoftu Pyramid Hotel from December 31,2024 to January 04,2025.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Feleke Woldeyes, Deputy Director General of the Institute, said that providing capacity building training had a great importance to fill gaps in the field.

He added that the training helps to achieve the institutional mission and bring practical change.  

Centers and Botanical Gardens Coordinator Ato Girum Faris said that this is a good opportunity organized at the institute and it will be of special help to the researchers.

Dr. Samson Shimelse Training, Consultancy, Project Support and Monitoring Lead Executive Officer said that the training was prepared by identifying gaps and selecting those who needed to be focused on.

He added that it is to improve knowledge at work, fill gaps, and conduct research better.

The researchers have been provided with practical training on Research Methods, Project proposal and Scientific writing, Software basics (R software), Geonode oriented basic GIS tools, Setting Priorities and Engaging in research and Controlling Illegal Transfer of Genetic Resources.

Discussion was held with the institute’s senior officials and management members on the positive developments and challenges being faced in the centers’ work process.

Finally, researchers expressed their satisfaction with the education and experience they received, and expressed their desire for the training to continue as it was of special assistance to their research work.

The Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute also awarded certificates of recognition to the officials.
