The Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute (EBI) and the Addis Ababa University Environmental Science Center (AUSC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on February 06, 2025, at the Institute’s conference hall.
In his opening speech, Dr. Melesse Maryo, Director General of the Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute, presented on the institute’s overall activities and stressed the need to jointly prevent biodiversity loss.
He also reminded the public that the conservation of genetic resources should ensure the benefit of society and presented the contents of the memorandum of understanding.
Professor Ahmed Hussen, Head of the Environmental Science Center at Addis Ababa University, outlined the center’s overall activities, achievements, national and international activities, and highlighted the benefits of educational institutions working together with research institutions.
Dr. Gemedo Dale, for his part, pointed out that environmental protection and biodiversity conservation efforts should be discussed with decision-makers and challenges should be addressed through nature-based solutions.
After the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding, both parties agreed to jointly carry out environmental protection and biodiversity conservation activities with the future of Ethiopia in mind. A ceremony to visit the institute was also held and the program concluded.
