As the institute celebrated the 24th World Biodiversity Day with various programs under the theme “Harmony with Nature for Sustainable Development,” all management and staff members attended the event to tour the Gulele Botanical Center.
The Director of the Directorate of Tourism Development at the Gulele Botanical Center, Ato Mekbeb Mamo, gave a welcoming speech, expressing their commitment to working closely on indigenous seedlings. He invited the management bodies to plant them as a memento.
Dr. Abiyot Berhanu, Deputy Director General of the Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute, delivered a message to the staff, emphasizing our country’s dedication to this year’s International Biodiversity Day theme: Harmony with Nature for Sustainable Development. He stressed the importance of studying, caring for, and conserving the vast biodiversity of our country to pass it on to future generations. He expressed readiness to create awareness and bring about change.
After the speeches, workers planted seedlings at the center with their colleagues. They encouraged each other to celebrate together by visiting and observing the previously planted seedlings, taking care of them, watering them, weeding them, and removing any that were not healthy.
