The Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute launched its first round of the Green Footprint Program

Under the theme “Renewal through Planting,” the Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute has launched its 2017 Green Footprint Program by planting five thousand indigenous seedlings in Kura Jida District.

The Institute’s Director General, Dr. Karta Kaske, stated during the launch of the program that the institution will plant ten thousand indigenous seedlings under this year’s Green Footprint Program, with five thousand indigenous seedlings being planted today. He emphasized that the goal of the institute is to plant endangered, economically important, and indigenous trees, which serves as the basis for the program.

Mr. Abera Seyoum, the Lead Executive Officer of the Forest and Rangeland Plant Research, highlighted the motto of the 2017 tree planting program: “We plant and we nurture seedlings, and this is how Ethiopia thrives.” He emphasized the importance of conserving forest-based biodiversity and the need to exercise caution when transporting seedlings and planting them.
